Want to be Free from Your GERD? Get the Root Caused Diagnosed Properly
are various ways for monitoring and evaluating the GERD. GERD is the common
complaint that affects the health of the adults, children and babies.
Esophageal motility testing is the commonly used method in evaluating the GERD. This test helps to find out the effectiveness of the esophageal muscles and the functioning ability.
In order to detect the esophageal muscle strength and their functioning ability, a narrow tube is passed in to the esophagus through the nose.
After that the patient, with the narrow tube intact in the esophagus, will be asked to drink water. During the swallowing process the contraction strength and the relaxation strength of the esophagus will be recorded.
This esophageal motility test helps in two different ways. In one, the abnormalities in the esophagus and its function can be assessed. The abnormalities in the esophagus are the reason foe GERD in most cases.
In the second, this test helps to arrive at the decision regarding the symptoms that are not responding to the conventional GERD therapy.
Gastric emptying test is the other effective method used in the evaluation of GERD. This test finds out the effectiveness of the stomach in emptying the contents.
The delay in emptying contents of the stomach is also one of the reasons for GERD. As per this test, the patients are provided meal which contains radio active substances.
Then by using the Geiger machine, the duration of the foods stay in the stomach of the patients is accurately measured. In case the emptying of the stomach contents is found to delayed, then the physician must prescribe medicines in speed up the process.
The symptoms that the patients experience such as vomiting and regurgitation are mostly due to delay in the emptying of the stomach contents.
The acid perfusion is the other very useful test in diagnosing the GERD problem. The main aim of the test is to find out whether the pain evinced is due to the acid reflux. Here also narrow tube inserted in to the nose to reach the esophagus.
A mixture of acid and salt is passed through the tube. The person is monitored for any kind of response. In case the person doesnt have any pain, then once can assume that the pain evinced earlier was not due to acid reflux.
This test, though very effective in ruling out the acid reflux for the pain around the chest region, very rarely used by the physician. Esophageal ph study is the most common test used to evaluate the acid reflux.
The evaluation of the GERD problem and monitoring the same is very important as in the case of any other medical problems. Only when the underlying cause of the problem is evaluated, the recovery can be faster and effective.
This is because rather than treating the symptoms of the problem, the physician can do something to eradicate the root cause of the problem.
This is the
right kind of treatment approach to any kind of disease problem. Hence
when the physician uses any one of the above discussed evaluation procedure,
the patient must co-operate to the maximum.
